How do I sign up to use the Patient Portal?
In order to have a patient portal account you will need to already be a patient at this practice. Call the IT Manager: (281) 955-7577 ext. 2107 or send an email to email@example.com.
ask to begin access to the Patient Portal service. After your identity
has been confirmed you will be asked for your permanent email address and
issued a user name and password. Access to the Patient Portal is available
from the home page at www.advancedosm.com. You can also stop at the check-in
counter in our office to request the service and receive your user name
and password on-site.
WHAT IS THE PATIENT PORTAL?
The Patient Portal provides you with secure, online access to portions of your medical records, as well as an easy and convenient way to communicate with the practice through a secure Internet connection. Think of it as an online account for your doctor's office, similar to online banking or credit card accounts you may currently have. Once you are logged into your portal account, the information you view pulls from your own personal medical record. Only you will have access to your health records, including any messages or information sent to you from the practice.
With the patient portal you will be able to:
- Send and receive non-urgent messages and information from our office, including test results and educational material
- Easily notify our practice of changes to your personal information, including phone number, address, and insurance changes
- Request a refill for a medication prescribed by a provider at our practice
- Request an appointment, view upcoming and previous appointments, including the doctor and location of those appointments
- View, update, and/or print your current medications and allergies list
- Easily complete and update current and past medical history
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A PATIENT PORTAL?
The Patient Portal helps you take a more active role in your healthcare. Having a patient portal account helps us create a more accurate record of your medical history as well as educate you on certain aspects of your health. It provides you and our practice with a more efficient means of communication, eliminating sources of frustration such as phone tag. You will also be able to print or download portions of your chart to take with you to other providers participating in your care, thus reducing the amount of paperwork you may need to fill out.
Having a patient portal account also helps to eliminate the amount of paper waste a practice produces. Documents, letters, and orders that might otherwise be mailed to you can be sent quickly and conveniently to your portal account. You will continue to have access to these documents until you choose to delete them from your inbox, so you won't have to worry about important medical papers or letters getting damaged or lost.
Is my confidentiality and privacy maintained on the Patient Portal?
Yes, your privacy is a priority for us. The Patient Portal connects to a secure web site and utilizes encryption for all communications. Only limited information is available through the Patient Portal and your medical record is not displayed or accessible. In addition, the system will automatically lock your account if there are three failed attempts to log in. You may also ask us to deactivate your access at any time.
Is there a charge for the service?
No. The Patient Portal is provided as a free convenience for our patients.
Can I communicate with my doctor through the Patient Portal?
You can use the Portal to send and receive non-emergency communication and requests to your physician or nurse. All incoming communication is received at a central location at Advanced Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine where it is distributed to the appropriate person for response. Please remember that communication through the Patient Portal is not a substitute for clinical appointments and will not be used to make a diagnosis or issue medical advice for conditions not currently being treated by your doctor.
How long until I receive a response?
Communications are monitored only during our regular Monday – Friday operating hours – so the Portal should only be used for non-urgent requests. We will try to get you a response within 24 hours, but depending on the nature of your request, more time may be needed before we are able to reply. You will receive an email alert advising you to log in to the Patient Portal to privately review our response to your communication.
Will I now receive reminders of upcoming appointments?
Yes. This service is automatically initiated when you request Patient Portal access. Normally we will never send private or health information through email. You will receive an alert at your email address that you have a message on the Patient Portal, where you can log in to receive your posted message. We have the additional option of secure email messaging for our patients if requested.
Can I make my next appointment through the Patient Portal?
When you log in, you have the option of submitting an appointment request and indicating your preferred day of the week and time. Your doctor’s scheduler will then contact you either by phone or through a message on the patient portal to set the actual appointment.
How do I notify ADVANCED ORTHOPAEDICS AND SPORTS MEDICINE if any of my personal information changes?
The Patient Portal offers you the convenience of viewing the demographic information we have on record for you and requesting to make changes to that information. Contact information such as your address, phone numbers, and email may be changed when needed as well as personal information such as name of employer or insurance provider when you contact us with updated information. You can also request us to change the name of the pharmacy to which you prefer us to send any prescription orders. This can be done through the messaging function of the portal or by contacting our staff at Advanced Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.
Can I request prescription refills through the Patient Portal?
Yes, prescription refill requests are accepted through the Patient Portal.
Do I need any special equipment or software to use the Patient Portal?
Advanced Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine’s Patient Portal is available through any computer with Internet access. You will not need special software, just log on to www.advancedosm.com and click the Patient Portal button. The Portal is compatible with PC and MacIntosh, and most browsers.
What if I forget my password?
You will need to contact our office IT Manager: (281) 955-7577 ext. 2107 or firstname.lastname@example.org and request a new password be issued.
